The law of Jante

The law of Jante was written down in the novel “A Fugitive Crosses his Tracks”, by Aksel Sandemose in 1933. The law consists of Ten Commandments and can be summed up in the statement: “Don’t think you’re anyone special or that you’re better than us.” This mentality had existed for along time but Sandemose put a name on it, The Law o Jante. It describes a way of thinking which had formed Swedes during several decades and is still in the back of the head of many Swedes.
